East Midlands housebuilder welcomes latest cohort of apprentices

An East Midlands housebuilder has officially welcomed its latest cohort of new starters, with the appointment of 10 apprentices and trainees across Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.

Redrow East Midlands, which is currently building across the region, has taken on two plumbing, three electrical, three brickwork and three carpentry apprentices, who will officially kick-start their construction careers within the team.

The apprenticeships allow students with a passion for construction to build on vocational skills in their chosen trades, from sales to construction. The intake follows the success of Redrow East Midlands’ ongoing scheme for over 16s, which has been running since 2017 and gives students in the local area an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and build a career in the housebuilding industry.

Callum Wardle, an apprentice joiner at Chantry Mews in New Lubbesthorpe, said:

“Being dyslexic, I always enjoyed the practical lessons at school rather than the academic ones. After finishing college, I knew my goal was to get an apprenticeship on a development, where I could get a hands-on approach to education.

“I really am over the moon to be offered an apprenticeship with such a well-known company, and I am looking forward to learning my trade with Redrow.”

I have been working at Redrow for almost two years as a customer services coordinator and wanted to take the next step in my career. The trainee scheme will provide me with a qualification in Construction in Built Environment and support me in the transition into the technical department, where I hope to become a technical coordinator.

Martyn Pask, Managing Director at Redrow East Midlands, said:

“Apprenticeships are a fantastic route into the housebuilding industry, and give individuals the chance to step straight into a career while they continue to learn.

“Here at Redrow, we are committed to nurturing the talent of our people, which is why a large proportion choose to stay with us many years after their apprenticeships comes to an end, becoming experts in their field as a result.

“I’d like to give a warm welcome to the 10 new apprentices and trainees joining our team, and look forward to watching them grow in their new positions!”
