CELEBRATIONS AS NELSONS’ PARTNER SHORTLISTED FOR PRESTIGIOUS AWARD

Glynis Wright MBE, partner and head of Nelsons’ family team in Leicester, has been shortlisted in the ‘Woman Solicitor of the Year’ category in this year’s Law Society Awards, the highest accolade for law firms in England and Wales.

The award celebrates a solicitor achieving professional excellence in her field and who has achieved significant results, either in her business or for the benefit of society.

Glynis, who retrained as a lawyer at the age of 40, graduated with multiple distinctions and set up her own law firm, Glynis Wright & Co, in Leicester in 2011. She has since been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s new year’s honours for her services to furthering the cause of female entrepreneurship and was named fundraiser of the year at the Leicestershire Community Champion Awards in 2020 – recognising her commitment to making a difference.

She said:

“I’m thrilled to have been shortlisted in this year’s Law Society Awards. Ever since I entered the legal profession, I’ve been committed to both the local community in Leicestershire and the wider legal sector and am dedicated to empowering women to succeed within the legal profession and business as a whole.

“Giving back to the people who have supported me throughout my journey is incredibly important, particularly to other women who are considering running their own businesses but need that bit of encouragement to go down the path of self-determination. 2021 has marked the beginning of a new era in my career and I’m truly humbled to have been shortlisted for this award.”

As part of its ambitious strategy for growth in Leicester and the wider East Midlands region, Nelsons announced the acquisition of Glynis Wright & Co in December 2020 with Glynis joining as a partner and head of the Leicester family team.

Stewart Vandermark, chief executive at Nelsons, said:

“We’re incredibly proud of Glynis for being shortlisted as ‘Woman Solicitor of the Year’. Her achievements since first setting up her own firm almost ten years ago are a testament to her passion, vision and leadership, which will help inspire the next generation of aspiring solicitors.”

Law Society of England and Wales president Stephanie Boyce said: “Congratulations to all those who have been shortlisted. After an extraordinary year, it has never been more important to celebrate the outstanding work of our profession.

“Solicitors play a vital role in times of crisis as people turn to trusted professionals, to explain the law, advise them on their rights and their obligations, and give them some sense of certainty.

“As the country emerges from the pandemic, solicitors will be there every step of the way to help people and businesses get back on their and ensure access to justice and the rule of law.”

Winners will be announced in an online ceremony on 7 October.
