This week saw the East Midlands Cyber Resilience Centre achieve a milestone: we welcomed on board our 300th core member!

The centre was founded in March 2020 to help the region combat cyber crime, and since then we’ve been helping countless businesses and now have more than 300 signed up as core members.

Signing up to become a core member includes:

  • Free Guidance on how organisations can protect themselves in cyberspace, including 10 steps to cyber security.
  • Continuity Exercise - a tool to give your organisation a ‘dummy’ run of a cyber attack. Similar to testing your fire drill. Tailored for different sized organisations.
  • Board Toolkit - Resources designed to encourage essential cyber security discussions between the Board and their technical experts.
  • E-news – regular digestible updates relevant to East Midlands organisations about cyber resilience

By working in conjunction with local universities and the five East Midlands police forces - Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire - we possess the latest information on emerging cyber threats, criminal trends and best safeguarding practice.

This enables us to provide you with timely guidance to prepare and protect your business, staff and customers from cyber criminals.

The centre is modelled on a successful structured collaboration acclaimed by the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC). It is part of a developing network of Cyber Resilience Centres across the UK, delivered by Business Resilience International Management.

The East Midlands Cyber Resilience Centre is led by Detective Inspector Matt Carson, of Derbyshire Constabulary.

“The Team and our partners are immensely proud to now be supporting over 300 businesses in the East Midlands from the real and growing threat of cyber crime”, says Matt.

“Whilst this is a great achievement, we are still passionate about helping businesses of all sizes in our area, and we can’t rest knowing there are many more business sectors that need this type of support.”

Cyber crime is a growing problem. Indeed, one small business in the UK is successfully hacked every 19 seconds, according to one study. Cyber attacks are potentially ruinous events for business owners. The average cost of a cyber security breach in the United Kingdom is £1,010 across all businesses, however, this figure becomes greater as the size of a business increases. The cost of a cyber attack is not only financial, with the average time large businesses spend on managing the impact amounting to 3.4 days, according to statista.com.

“If you are a business in the East Midlands region that would like to know more about the current threats in your area, and how to safeguard your business and your staff – especially those working from home - then the first part of that journey is to sign up for our free core membership”, continues Matt.

“Cyber crime never sleeps, almost 50% of businesses are reporting some sort of cyber breach. It’s not a question of if, but when. So please take advantage of this government-backed initiative and join today. Around 95% of cyber crime could be avoided by taking on board this sort of advice and putting simple steps in place. It takes less than a minute to sign up and may save you a small fortune by using all the services we have on offer for our members.”
