Irthlingborough Food Bank receives donation from local housebuilder

Irthlingborough Food Bank has received a £250 donation from Davidsons Homes to help support its efforts to end food poverty.

Based at the Salvation Army Citadel on Spinney Road, close to the housebuilder’s Diamond Heights development, the organisation provides crisis food parcels – in single and family sizes – that contain enough food for three days.

Angela Bridge, one of Irthlingborough Food Bank’s volunteers, said:

“As we receive no Government funding, we rely on the generosity of donations to help provide food for people in genuine need. I’d like to thank Davidsons Homes, and all of our other kind donors, for their support.

Cash donations like this mean that we can buy items which would otherwise be in short supply, such as tinned fruit, tinned meat and squash, enabling us to deliver more balanced meals in the parcels.

“In a normal year we hand out between 50 to 80 food parcels. Last year this doubled to 160 as the pandemic left more people than ever suffering from food poverty, so having the community pull together and kindly give donations has never been more appreciated.”

Simon Tyler, Sales Director for Davidsons Homes South Midlands, said:

“We always like to support and contribute to the local communities in which we build, and this donation will help to provide vital meals for individuals and families in financial hardship.

“The volunteers at Irthlingborough Food Bank have done an admirable job throughout the pandemic and we are pleased to be able to support their work during these difficult times.”

The food bank’s website contains details on ways that individuals can donate, including a list of suggested suitable items. For more information on how you can support the organisation, visit irthlingboroughfoodbank.co.uk.

Davidsons Homes is currently building a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes at Diamond Heights, off Attley Way. For more information about the new houses, visit davidsonshomes.co.uk.
