Double promotion announced at Derby law firm

Leading Derby-based law firm Nelsons has promoted two employees from its family and residential conveyancing departments to legal director and senior associate respectively.

Layla Babadi and Rachel Maxwell have collectively worked at Nelsons for eight years and are delighted their efforts and dedication have been recognised by the law firm.

Specialist family solicitor Layla, who joined Nelsons following the acquisition of Moody and Woolley in 2015, has been practising family law since 2005. She has a specialism in international divorce cases and leads the family law team in Derby, which advises on divorce and separation.

Layla said:

“I enjoy the variety of the job; no two cases are the same. From studying family law on my Legal Practice Course (LPC), I always knew I would specialise in this very rewarding area of work.

“As legal director I am looking forward to the additional responsibility and supervision of junior team members, taking the team from strength to strength. I am also excited to be back in Derby where I spent the first ten years of my career.

“My priorities going forwards are to assist the partners in leading an exceptional team in the East Midlands and to increase the profile of the divorce and separation team in Derby.”

Solicitor Rachel joined Nelsons in 2017, where she specialises in residential conveyancing matters, including freehold and leasehold property sales and purchases.

Rachel said:

“After qualifying, I wanted to start the next chapter in my career; I felt that Nelsons was the right place for me to grow and develop my expertise in residential property.

“The favourite part of my job is working with a really strong and varied team in providing a high level of service to individuals across the East Midlands region and beyond. This includes helping people acquire their first home, moving up the property ladder or adding to their investment portfolios. It’s a very rewarding role as I help people achieve their goals of becoming homeowners.

“My top priority is to maintain a high standard of service by supporting all members of the team to ensure that our clients are able to enjoy a smooth transaction.”

Nelsons’ chief executive Stewart Vandermark said:

“Layla and Rachel are extremely deserving of their promotions and are both fantastic members of the Nelsons team. Their stories highlight the development opportunities available for our employees and I am delighted to be able to congratulate Rachel on her promotion to senior associate and Layla on becoming a legal director.”
