Northamptonshire company committed to growing next generation of skilled workers

An award-winning Northamptonshire business has underlined its commitment to growing its own talent by offering hands-on experience and apprenticeships to the next generation of skilled workers.

RK Electrical Mechanical Services, has welcomed Spencer Bell to the team following a successful two-week work experience trial, overseen by a contract manager.

The 16-year-old will benefit from invaluable hands-on training five days-a-week for 10 months before, if successful, embarking on the Desborough-based firm’s fully-funded apprenticeship scheme.

Mechanical Contracts Manager, Graham Beale said:

“We are delighted to welcome Spencer to the team and we are excited to watch him develop his expertise whilst learning his trade. On completion of a successful traning period, Spencer will be given the opportunity to join our apprenticeship programme.

“Here at RK Electrical Mechanical Services we work hard to provide a supportive, creative environment for staff and through our apprentice scheme we hope to demonstrate our commitment to providing the next generation of highly-trained staff to provide excellence in service, budget and time management.”

Spencer said:

“After successfully completing my GCSEs I hadn’t decided what I wanted to do. I thought about learning a trade so I got in touch with RK Electrical Mechanical Services and was invited for a two-week trial. That went really well and I’m delighted to be joining the team for 10-months. I’m looking forward to working hard and I think the time I spend out on the job will benefit me greatly if I am successfully awarded an apprenticeship.”

The award-winning employer specialises in providing high-quality electrical, plumbing and heating services over a number of industry sectors, including housing developments, social housing sites and industrial, commercial and domestic properties.

Apprenticeships in electrical plumbing and heating, including gas, are offered to successful candidates on completion of a two-week trial.

Kye Bishop, Business Development Manager, added:

“Following successful completion of a two-week trial, candidates are enrolled on a relevant apprenticeship programme, attending college or a training centre when required to consolidate practical learning.

“On completion of the apprenticeship programme candidates will have taken the necessary steps to be qualified as either an electrical or mechanical engineer. Ultimately it is our aim to organically grow the business and create a respected workforce trained to our high standards.”
