Derby solicitor's expertise recognised by global professional body

EXPERT wills and probate partner Helen Salisbury has become one of just 12 Derby-based full members of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) – an international professional body for practitioners specialising in inheritance and succession planning.

Helen qualified as a solicitor in 2009 and joined law firm Nelsons in 2015, where she specialises in wills and probate matters, advising on inheritance tax, will drafting and powers of attorney.

STEP’s primary purpose is to provide confidence to families by setting and upholding standards. In order to become a full member, legal professionals must have a combination of specialist qualifications and experience, including significant involvement with inheritance and succession planning.

Helen said:

“Providing confidence and assurance to clients, as well as demonstrating high professional standards, is at the heart of STEP, which fits in with Nelsons’ values of empowering its clients and giving them a voice; I’m incredibly proud to have become a full member and represent the firm.”

Members are subject to an extensive code of professional conduct that requires them to act with integrity and in a manner that inspires the confidence, respect and trust of their clients and the wider community. They are also expected to keep up to date with the latest legal, technical and regulatory developments.

Due to having a decade of experience in this specialist area, Helen wrote three 5,000-word essays that covered a range of topics from mental capacity and care fee planning to estate planning to demonstrate her expertise and achieve the full membership status.

Helen added:

“STEP is the gold standard for trust and estate practitioners and achieving full membership shows my commitment to Nelsons and to our clients. Clients can rest assured that we have the relevant skills and knowledge and are true specialists in this area of law.”
