Expanding national PR agency wins new clients and appoints to five roles

With two national award wins under its belt, a raft of new clients and team appointments, it’s a period of exciting growth for Nottingham head-quartered PR agency, The Tonic Communications.

Established in 2013, the national agency was founded by Kelly Marshall-Hill and Georgina Phillips and has offices in Nottingham and Newcastle.

Five roles have recently been filled following healthcare contract wins, which has also seen internal promotions within the team.

The Tonic has added to its impressive client roster the UK’s largest home health test service Medichecks, translation brand Papillon, and Connect Health, the biggest provider of community musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy services in the country.

Co-founder and director, Kelly Marshall-Hill, said:

“We believe communications - executed well – is about honest, insightful and clever storytelling that delivers real business results and inspires people.

“We’ve recently completed a review of our agency and took the bold decision to support the kind of businesses that we are genuinely passionate about, and that’s ethical, like-minded brands who are working to affect positive change in the world, through healthcare and wellbeing initiatives, green transport solutions and responsible retail and leisure.

“Thanks to recent growth, we have bolstered our team and we are now perfectly resourced to help effectively support our new clients while continuing to provide a comprehensive service that our existing clients recognise us for.”

James Dixon has been appointed as Head of Digital, while Simon Redfern, Fay Clarkson, Sophie Gordon and Katie Moss have also been welcomed to the agency’s Lace Market base within the last few months.

North East-based consultant Michelle Oliver, previously Senior Account Manager, has been appointed to the newly-created position of PR and Marketing Manager. Meanwhile Helen Cummings has been promoted from Senior PR Account Executive to PR Account Manager.

James Dixon is an experienced digital marketing professional who has worked on major social media campaigns for brands including Sky and Unilever and charities like Drinkaware and Sightsavers. James will lead and develop the digital strategy at The Tonic, across the agency and its client base.

A former journalist with a background in marketing communications for organisations including the University of Derby and Nottinghamshire County Council, Simon Redfern has been appointed as a Senior PR Account Manager.

Fay Clarkson joins Tonic as a PR Account Manager with prior agency experience working with major brands such as Wilkinson Sword and BASF.

University of Nottingham graduates Sophie Gordon and Katie Moss have joined the team permanently following successful completion of three-month internships. Sophie studied BA (Hons) Religion, Philosophy and Ethics at the University, while Katie completed an MA in American Studies.

The Tonic Communications operates from a suite in the renovated former BZR building in the heart of Nottingham’s Lace Market. It specialises in supporting regional, national, international brands with public relations, event management, social media and digital consultancy, on and off-site content creation and crisis communications.

Kelly added:

“We’re excited to have such a talented team and while it’s fantastic to welcome new brands too, we’re also proud to continue to deliver results to our long standing clients, such as Vision Express, who we celebrate seven years supporting in 2020.”
