Community Tickets Offered For Annual Event

Rolls-Royce plc is offering 300 free tickets for people living in some of the most disadvantaged areas of Derby to enjoy the Darley Park outdoor classical music concert in September.

The company has been a long-term supporter of Sinfonia Viva‘s appearance, as the event’s long-standing orchestra - performing a diverse programme of classical music at the annual concert.

A team of Rolls-Royce STEM Ambassadors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) will be running activities for families before the evening concert which will this year be held on Sunday 1st September.

This will be the third year that tickets have been sold for the concert and Rolls-Royce wants to ensure that people from all communities have the chance to enjoy the event.

The company will be offering tickets through Viva’s involvement in ‘This is Derby’ - the arts and cultural partnership programme with young people from vulnerable groups, including those eligible for free school meals, in alternative education or in care as well as young carers and children and young people with special education needs and disabilities.

Viva has been working on a creative project with some of the city’s special educational needs schools: Ivy House, Royal School for the Deaf Derby, St Andrew’s, St Clare’s, St Giles and St Martins schools, as well as Royal Derby Hospital.

Tickets will be offered to young people and their families, including those involved in Viva’s creative project, with priority given to those living in areas of high deprivation in the city.

Rolls-Royce Head of Community Investment and Education Outreach Paul Broadhead said:

“The Darley Park concert is an important part of the city’s cultural calendar and, although the cost of tickets has been kept low, it may still be beyond the reach of some families in the city.

“As a long-term supporter of Sinfonia Viva’s appearance at the concert, I hope that this initiative will ensure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy this spectacular event.”

Sinfonia Viva Chief Executive Peter Helps added:

“Rolls-Royce has supported our nationally-acclaimed education and community outreach work for many years – enabling the Orchestra to bring high quality classical music to thousands of people every year.

“This support includes the Darley Park Concert and we are thrilled that the company is making sure that this popular event is accessible to people in all local communities.”
