Bowers hits double top at awards

Power transformer manufacturer Bowers Electricals is celebrating after scooping two prestigious business awards.

The firm, based in Heanor, in Derbyshire, was named Small Business of the Year at the Derby Telegraph’s recent 2017 business awards. It also won the Excellence in Manufacturing award.

Bowers Electricals is one of the UK’s largest manufacturers of energy saving power and distribution transformers.

The family-owned firm, which was founded in 1947 as an electric motor and transformer rewinding business, has moved into the supply of new and refurbished transformers, HV and LV switchgear and a full range of associated products and services.

It provides solutions for everything from small industrial developments to major infrastructure schemes, including large-scale power stations, government buildings, hospitals, schools and universities, wind and solar farms, and throughout the heavy power engineering industry.

Still managed day-to-day by the family that set it up, Bowers Electricals is now part of the Bowers Group of Companies, with an annual turnover of more than £13m a year and employing 80 people.

The firm picked up the awards at a glittering ceremony at the Roundhouse, in Derby, which was hosted by comedian and TV host Mark Dolan and Olympics silver medallist badminton star Gail Emms MBE.

Its Managing Director, Michael Bowers, said: “This is a huge accolade for the business to win two awards.

“We are absolutely delighted, especially since we had strong competition in both categories. The awards are a testament to the hard work all our team have put in over the past year.”
