A host of Leicestershire businesses have been named as semi-finalists in the Niche Business Awards 2016

The list of semi-finalists was revealed at a special networking event hosted by Cross Productions, which runs the awards, where 120 guests tucked into gourmet street food at the offices of event ambassadors, MNE Accounting.

In total, 72 local companies and organisations have been shortlisted in 17 categories, including Best Restaurant, Fashion, Eco Business and Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders, after being voted for by the public.

Alex’s Wish and the Matt Hampson Foundation are among the good causes shortlisted in the Charity of the Year category.

The semi-finalists will battle it out to be crowned the county’s best at the Niche Business Awards ceremony, taking place on the 9th September at The Athena in Leicester’s Cultural Quarter and boasting a Las Vega theme.

Editor of Niche Magazine, Lee Parkin, said:

“We’re all massively excited about the awards as they’re gaining so much momentum. It feels great to be representing and recognising small and independent businesses, alongside the city’s more established enterprises and to be shining a light on the county’s good causes. The awards will bring local businesses together in a fun networking event and I am very much looking forward to the night. We have collaborated with event host Kate Solomons from Kreative Group, formerly known as ModelZed, and have connected with many other businesses to help make the event a night to remember.”

Now in its second year, the Niche Business Awards has become a highlight in the Leicestershire events calendar.

The inaugural ceremony last year was hailed a success, with guests treated to a 007 themed occasion, complete with casino games that allowed attendees to gamble for charities, live entertainment and a three course dinner.

Glynis Wright, of Glynis Wright & Co Family Solicitors, said:

“I’ve been involved with Niche probably for the last three years. I met Jenny at a networking event. Her magazine was growing about the same time that my company was growing and I immediately saw that we would make a great partnership together. I took a punt on Niche and started advertising. I became involved in the networks and then from there, I became a sponsor of the Niche Awards and it’s been absolutely fantastic. Niche has been supporting local businesses and I want to do the same. Niche is the most energetic magazine I’ve ever come across, but then they’re so much more than just a magazine. They are all about our local business community and they arrange these fantastic events where we all get a chance to publicise ourselves and get our name out there into the local business community.”

Niche Magazine was created by Jenny Cross under umbrella company Cross Productions as a platform to recognise, support and bring together local businesses. The annual awards celebrate the unique stories behind each business and their accomplishments.
