Organised by East Midlands Business Link Magazine, the annual Bricks Awards recognise and celebrate East Midlands-based projects, companies and people in the built environment which are contributing to the region’s ever-evolving landscape.
Winners across eleven categories were announced at a special awards evening and networking event held on Thursday 3rd October at the Trent Bridge County Cricket Club.
Michael Sims, managing director at Clegg Construction, commented:
“Clegg is a 92-year-old company whose head office has been based in Nottingham city centre for over 25 years, and we are so proud to have been recognised at this year’s BRICKS Awards for our contributions to the built environment in the East Midlands region. We dedicate this award to our teams and partners, whose unwavering commitment to delivering an exceptional service on each of the projects we deliver is fundamental to the company’s continued success.”
The company has a long history of delivering flagship construction projects in the East Midlands, working with key businesses in the region such as the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University, Rolls-Royce, Derby City Council, Notts County Cricket Club, and Nottingham Forest Football Club. It has delivered a wide range of facilities in the area, from student accommodation and residential schemes to the UK’s first BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ laboratory.
Key projects delivered in recent times include the multi-phased construction of a new teaching block and the refurbishment and modernisation of existing teaching spaces at Carlton le Willows Academy in Nottingham; the sensitive modernisation of the University of Nottingham’s historic Florence Boot Hall student accommodation building, and the design and build of Middleton Lodge Care Home in Littleover, Derbyshire.
Clegg Construction is currently on-site at Vision West Nottinghamshire College’s Chesterfield Road campus, where it is working in partnership with the college to deliver an £8.8m Future Tech Skills and Knowledge Exchange designed to train local students for careers in emerging industries. Due to hand over next year, the highly anticipated facility will also provide a purpose-built space in which the college’s students and partner Nottingham Trent University (NTU) can work with local employers on projects to support the use of evolving technology, helping to meet future labour market needs, decrease skills gaps, and contribute to the creation of well-paid jobs in Mansfield and the wider district.
The company’s dedication to enhancing the communities in which it works extends to the delivery of targeted social value campaigns in the areas of employment and skills development, economy and local spend, and environmental sustainability.
Over the last year, Clegg Construction has hosted work placements for students from the University of Nottingham and Rushcliffe Academy, and has engaged with key educational and training providers – such as Carlton le Willows Academy, South Nottinghamshire Academy and Action for Construction – to deliver careers-focused initiatives to the future generation of professionals.
Clegg’s parent company, Clegg Group Ltd, recently launched its Group Charity Fund, with local beneficiaries including Nottingham Men Allowed – a men’s pop-up singing project set up to support Prostate Cancer UK, and Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust – with whom the organisation has partnered as part of its commitment to the environment and sustainability
With its headquarters in The Lace Market, Nottingham, Clegg Construction is a Midlands, East Anglia, and Yorkshire-based construction firm specialising in the delivery of public and private sector projects.
The company works with organisations of all sizes and specialities across a range of different sectors.
