Nottingham Trent University voted University of the Year at the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2023

Nottingham Trent University voted University of the Year at the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2023

NTU scooped two awards in this year’s Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs) including the coveted University of the Year accolade.

The WUSCAs recognise universities’ efforts to meet and exceed student experience and are the largest annual awards in the UK voted for exclusively by students.

The University of the Year award is a reflection of how students perceive their whole university experience. Students are asked to take into account everything that has shaped their time at an institution, both on a personal and academic level.

Simon Emmett, CEO at IDP Connect, organisers of the WUSCAs said:

"The Whatuni awards celebrate creativity, resilience and innovation within higher education. Nottingham Trent University has shown this in leaps and bounds, securing the esteemed University of the Year award.”

“This year's scores are significantly higher than previous years, highlighting the excellent work done across the sector.”

Professor Edward Peck, Vice-Chancellor and President at Nottingham Trent University said:

“These awards are particularly special to us because they are voted for by our students, and I am proud to be able to call NTU the University of the Year. We are committed to giving our community a student experience like no other, and this accolade is testament to this hard work.

“Thank you to all our students for their support and for sharing their views, we are delighted that all our hard work is creating such a brilliant experience for you.”

One NTU student says:

“Nottingham Trent University has been fantastic. My course being Graphic Design surprised me. The facilities the course offers are great. As well as the teaching staff that are extremely talented and know which direction to guide you in. The best aspect of NTU for me is the fact I can do a degree I love and also play a sport I love, such as netball. Not many creative universities offer this experience. So it’s the best of both worlds.” – Student review on Whatuni

NTU also took the top spot in the Postgraduate category – improving its runner-up position from last year. Students vote for the facilities available for postgraduate students as well as how they welcome and support them through their studies.

"[Nottingham]Trent is a great place to study because of the variety of people here, the global, cultural, contextual differences between each student. You have the chance to make so many new friends who come from all walks of life! The tutors are supportive and full of incredible knowledge and ideas which they are very happy to share and discuss with you. Trent allows and encourages you to develop your identity, thoughts and dreams to be the best version of yourself." – Student review on Whatuni

NTU also narrowly missed out in the Student Life and International categories, further confirmation of the support and welcome all students receive.

Overall, NTU was shortlisted in six categories for this year’s Awards.
