Cawarden celebrates hat-trick of environmental accolades

Cawarden is celebrating after winning three environmental awards this month.

The Derby-based Specialist Contractor is continuing to reduce its impact on the environment.

And with this latest haul of accolades, Cawarden is shining a light on the significant progress it has made as a culmination of multiple ideas and initiatives.

British Demolition Awards

Environmental Innovation of the Year

Cawarden has been honoured with the Environmental Innovation of the Year Award 2022 at the fourth annual British Demolition Awards, taking place at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium.

Since making the phased transition to a new eco-fuel made from waste fats and vegetable oils, Cawarden’s emissions have reduced by 67%, equivalent to 94 single flights to Sydney, Australia saved to date (that’s well over 1,000 metric tonnes of CO2). This has been achieved in just ten months.

The award is a reflection of the hard work, commitment, and dedication of the Cawarden team to make a difference.

Green Apple Awards

Environmental Best Practice Award for the environmental and conservation work undertaken at a former JCB Factory site in Staffordshire

Cawarden has won an International Green Apple Environment Award in the campaign to find the greenest companies.

The award recognises the work Cawarden has undertaken to go above and beyond to protect and restore the ecological integrity of a waterway all whilst helping to bring the former JCB factory site back into use.

They competed against more than 500 other nominations in the International Green Apple Awards, and they will be presented with a gold, silver or bronze trophy and certificate at a glittering presentation ceremony in the Houses of Parliament, London, on November 21.

As a result of this International Green Apple Award success, Cawarden has been invited to accept Green World Ambassador status and have their winning paper published in The Green Book (the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice) so that others around the world can follow their lead and learn from their achievement.

This will also entitle them to represent their country in the Green World Environment Awards that are held in a different country every year.

RISE Award

Carbon Reduction and Wellbeing Award

Hosted in Bristol at the University of the West of England (UWE) and in association with the University of Suffolk and Leeds Beckett University, Cawarden picked up a prestigious RISE Award in honour of the firm’s achievements and progress made to de-carbonise its operations.

These highly regarded awards seek to recognise, celebrate, and showcase exemplar case studies from the Built Environment - sharing emerging best practice in Research, Innovation, Sustainability and Enterprise for new and innovative products, technologies, processes, projects, and schemes.

Jonathan Groves, Quality Director, said:

“Protecting the environment and progressing the business to become more sustainable in our operations are all part of our ongoing commitment. So picking up three environmental awards really does reflect the great work we’re doing across the board and that it is not going unnoticed by the business or academic community.

“Congratulations must go to everyone at Cawarden for their contribution to this success. Because of these efforts, we’re able to win awards like this and showcase our delivery expertise, and that sustainability continues to be at our heart.”
