NORTH NOTTS BID BACKS CALLS FOR BUSINESS BOOSTER

NORTH NOTTS BID has backed the Business Booster campaign, in which over 100 destinations across the UK and 100,000 retail, hospitality and leisure businesses are urging Government to provide immediate support to these sectors over Christmas - in response to the impact of rising Omicron cases and Plan B measures.

In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, the #BusinessBooster calls on Government to provide businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors with 100% Business Rate Relief up to and including 31 March 2022, and 50% relief afterwards until 30 June 2022.

It also urges Government to extend the current 12.5% VAT reduction for hospitality through to 31 March 2023, and introduce grants up to £15,000 by rateable value for businesses within the hospitality, retail and leisure sectors.

Sally Gillborn, chief executive at North Notts BID, said:

“It’s imperative that businesses in North Notts feel assured by Government that they will be supported this Christmas - helping to mitigate the impact of rising Omicron cases and Plan B interventions that risk catastrophically reducing footfall, alongside business earnings at this vital period of the year.

“Our towns have rallied behind businesses in recent months, most notably during the Christmas lights switch-ons and festivities across Retford, Worksop, Tuxford and Harworth. While the support of North Notts BID in the recovery has been vital, we are desperate for immediate action from Government if footfall is to dramatically drop again through impending measures. Support must reflect that which was provided during prior lockdowns.”

Matthew Sims, CEO of Croydon BID and Founder of the Business Booster campaign said:

"It is baffling and alarming that our Chancellor is doggedly sticking to measures which are out of date and out of touch with the stark and desperate reality retail, hospitality and leisure are facing. Without swift intervention, many businesses will be faced with closures, layoffs and cutbacks masking the significant financial support Government has ploughed into these sectors during the pandemic a woeful waste of money."
