Derby business consultant slays the dragon

A Derby businesswoman who helps SME owners to increase their sales, win more customers and grow has been awarded the prestigious Small Business Sunday accolade by retail entrepreneur Theo Paphitis.

Jade Brindley, who founded business development firm Koa Consulting, was chosen as the latest recipient of the title by the former star of BBC 2’s Dragon’s Den.

The award, which is run through Twitter, singles out small businesses who show passion and determination in their industry.

Jade, a mum of two, from Derby, is a business development specialist who founded Koa Consulting in 2017, after more than a decade of experience with organisations including East Midlands Chamber and New College Nottingham.

The firm helps SMEs to achieve growth by improving their processes, sales and marketing and customer service, through better business planning and strategy.

She will collect her award from Theo, alongside other recipients from across the UK, at a special event in London next February.

Jade said: “It’s always great to win a business award, but this one is extra special because it is such a high-profile initiative and Theo is a familiar and well-respected business leader who does so much to support small businesses in the UK.

“Marketing and social media play an important role in helping businesses to raise their profile, reach new audiences and showcase what they do. Winning #SBS shows precisely how using social media to promote yourself can deliver positive results.”

Theo Paphitis, the Ryman Stationery, Robert Dyas and Boux Avenue Chairman, created Small Business Sunday in 2010 as a way of helping SMEs to flourish.

Each week, hundreds of business owners from across the UK tweet Theo using the hashtag #SBS to describe their business. He then chooses his favourite six and retweets their messages to his 500,000+ followers.

He said: “We’re thrilled to welcome new #SBS members every week and highlight just how important it is to support our small businesses here in the UK.

“My vision is that everyone who has ever won an #SBS re-tweet from me becomes part of a friendly club; like-minded individuals who can share successes and learnings. The website will also give a valuable profile to the winners chosen and I wish Koa Consulting every success.”
