Derby BIDs Put Out The Flags For Visitors’ Return

Derby city centre’s two Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) are brightening up their areas to welcome visitors back ahead of key events this summer.
The Cathedral Quarter BID has installed bunting on Corn Market, Iron Gate, Sadler Gate and The Strand which will remain in place throughout the summer months.
Floral displays will be installed in the coming weeks and, meanwhile, stencils are being painted on pavements around the city centre as part of the much-anticipated Derby Ram Trail of which the Cathedral Quarter is the presenting partner and St Peters Quarter BID is the trail partner.
Ground floor businesses across both the Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter are also being supplied their own Ram Trail themed bunting to decorate their windows.
Cathedral Quarter chair Martin Langsdale MBE explained:
“With lockdown restrictions easing, we are anticipating a steady increase in footfall around the city centre.
“As the cultural heart of the city centre and the recent opening of these venues in our area, we are now looking forward to the start of the Derby Ram Trail on May 27 which will continue through to August 22.
“The BID therefore wanted to ensure the Cathedral Quarter was bright and welcoming for visitors who no doubt will be keen to see these colourful sculptures.”
Helen Wathall MBE, chair of St Peters Quarter BID continued:
“Businesses are very much looking forward to the Derby Ram Trail and then other key events such as the Book Festival and Folk Festival.
“The floor stencils in particular will reinforce an important element of all of these Covid-safe events and remind people of the importance of maintaining social distance – even in these more positive times.”
Rescheduled from last summer, The Derby Ram Trail is being brought to the city by Derby Museums, in partnership with Wild in Art and is an amazing public art sculpture event with 30 individually painted 5ft tall Rams, threading through the city centre between May 27 and August 22.
The BIDs’ support reflects the positive impact that the trail will have on the two areas where the majority of the sculptures will be situated and both the Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter are organising their own programme of additional Ram themed activities as an extra attraction for visitors to enjoy.
The Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter Rangers will be important ‘Rambassadors’ throughout the trail – welcoming visitors to the areas and signposting them to points of interest.
