WEBISODE: WILL NOTTINGHAM BE THE FIRST TRUE 15-MINUTE CITY

WEBISODE: WILL NOTTINGHAM BE THE FIRST TRUE 15-MINUTE CITY

PROFESSOR Carlos Moreno, world-leading expert and creator of the internationally recognised ‘15-minute city’ concept, is set to join a panel of industry professionals for an upcoming CC Live webisode hosted by The Island Quarter and Cartwright Communications.

Living in a city has long meant accepting a certain level of dysfunction: long commutes, noisy streets and underutilised spaces. However, Professor Moreno wants to change that, making the case for a '15-minute city’, where inhabitants have access to all the services they need to live, learn and thrive within their immediate vicinity.

In the upcoming webisode on Friday 26 March, he will discuss how the concept works in practice, and whether Nottingham has the potential to become the first true '15-minute city’, and how The Island Quarter development can contribute to this.

The Island Quarter is one of the biggest city centre developments happening right now in the UK. The 40-acre site boasts a prime location, sitting just five minutes from the city’s railway station and a short walk from the city centre, and will be truly mixed-use while preserving its unique heritage.

Christopher Ware, property director at Conygar, the developer behind The Island Quarter, said:

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have secured Professor Moreno for our upcoming webisode. His insights into how the '15-minute city’ concept can be applied to Nottingham, and the work we’re doing to rejuvenate the Southside of the city, will be invaluable as we continue in our mission to bring something outstanding to the people of Nottingham.”

Joining Prof. Moreno on the panel will be  several local industry leaders, including; Toby Reid, CEO of BioCity, Lee Walker, director of The Nottingham Project and Lucelia Rodrigues, professor of sustainable and resilient cities at the University of Nottingham. The event will culminate in a live Q&A with Prof. Moreno and Christopher Ware.

Christopher added:

“This is the first in a series of webisodes we have lined up for 2021, and we’re thrilled to have secured such a brilliant line up to kick off the first one of the year. Registrations are already open but are limited so we’d encourage anyone interested in joining us to save their space early to avoid disappointment.”

After sitting derelict since 1994, The Island Quarter will be reimagined as a new quarter for hotels, offices, living, restaurants and bars and cultural events, all linked by acres of public access green space, creating a new community for Nottingham.

The webinar will be broadcast live at 2pm on Friday 26 March, to register a place. For more information on The Island Quarter, visit theislandquarter.com.
