BID HELPS NORTH NOTTS BUSINESSES GET READY TO LEAVE LOCKDOWN

BUSINESSES in North Nottinghamshire are being urged to get ready for the easing of lockdown restrictions with support from North Notts BID.

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, North Notts BID has been working with businesses in the district to support them in as many ways as possible through a range of BID members benefits, the sharing of information and guidance and supporting Bassetlaw District Council to re-open the high streets safely last year.

Now, with the UK government announcing its roadmap to normality, members are continuing to take advantage of the services offered by the BID to get them ready for re-opening.

Alongside its popular maintenance service – which offers small external jobs including repairs, jet washing, gardening and other improvements free to members – the BID offers free training courses via its new, flexible online training platform that provides training courses to BID members and their staff.

The digital training is available at a time to suit the business or employee, and members have signed up to over 100 courses since its launch at the beginning of February.

Sally Gillborn, chief executive of North Notts BID, said:

“The last year has been extremely challenging for businesses across the district and we’re glad that we have been able to provide support and opportunities for them throughout this difficult period.

The BID has also relaunched its savings service – which has previously saved members hundreds of thousands of pounds on their utility bills – through new savings partner Save the High Street, and introduced the DISC crime prevention website and app to support the ongoing work of its Business Crime Partnership.

Sally said: “Whether we’re providing immediate help through the maintenance service, or long-term support though initiatives like the savings service and online training, our role is to provide local businesses with the opportunities to develop to make sure they are as prepared as possible when lockdown lifts.”

With the government’s proposed roadmap out of lockdown ending in June, the BID is also planning to run two of its most popular events, which had to be postponed in 2020.

The North Notts Food Festival is set to return to Worksop on Saturday, 3 July, while the crowd-pleasing Party in the Square will take place in Retford on Sunday, 29 August – featuring 2008 X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke.

Sally said:

“Having seen how much people in the area enjoy these events, it was such a shame to have to cancel them last year given the ongoing situation.

“However, we’re delighted that the current timeline for the easing of lockdown restrictions will allow us to hold both events this year and reunite communities in our towns, supporting the local economy and championing the district as a whole.”

Cllr Simon Greaves, leader of Bassetlaw District Council, said:

“As we move through the steps of the roadmap, I would like to urge businesses to take up the offer of support from the BID and find out what help is available in getting ready for re-opening.

“I know that many people are looking forward to the lifting of restrictions and, while some may be more cautious, business and town centre traders are looking to the future and the reopening of our high streets.

“I am hopeful that the Food Festival and Party in the Square will be able to safely go ahead and send a clear signal that are we are on our way back to a more normal life.”
