Microlise Supports Pipeline of Young Talent Through ‘Think Logistics’ Sponsorship

Microlise has renewed its association with Think Logistics, and is delighted to continue to partner with leading industry bodies and over 40 other logistics companies to attract school leavers, apprentices and graduates into the logistics, transport and supply chain profession.

While this year’s global pandemic has wreaked havoc across many sectors, our industry rose to the challenges presented by Covid-19 and proved once again, how essential our sector is to trade and to our economy.
With the RHA estimating that the logistics sector currently employs more than 2.5 million people, there are literally thousands of potential career paths for young people including logistics coordinators, project managers, web developers, engineers, data scientists, sales and marketing specialists, coders, designers, accountants, managers, technicians, planners and more.

According to Bob Harbey, Executive Director of Microlise, our internal graduate & apprenticeship programme, the driver training opportunities offered in collaboration with the RHA through Road to Logistics and membership of key organisations such as Think Logistics, highlight Microlise’s passion for providing young people (and those who may start out at a disadvantage), with worthwhile career opportunities:

‘Our sector is never complacent and we can never afford to stand still. Microlise is constantly looking at ways to attract young people into the business. The pay-back for them is they can plot their own career across a myriad of different pathways, ending up with widely transferable skills that are always in demand including problem solving, planning, collaborating and innovating.‘

Steve Granite, CEO of Abbey Logistics and the creator of Think Logistics is a perfect role model having carved out a highly successful career in the logistics industry since he joined the profession at 15 years of age:

‘Microlise has been a fantastic supporter of Think Logistics and we are delighted that they are going to continue to lend their support. In addition to sponsorship, Microlise has supported us in several ways including allocating annual space at their exhibition, making presentations at schools and colleges as well as offering internship places at their headquarters in Nottingham.

'Think Logistics is making a real-world difference with countless example of young people who have been introduced to logistics through the programme and gone on to start careers in the sector. We can only achieve this through the support, commitment and dedication of our partners, driving the initiative forward and working together to solve a shared challenge.

'For the logistics sector to thrive and develop, it must communicate with young people and clearly outline the wide variety of career paths available in the sector. With the support of Microlise and companies like them, we can continue to demonstrate to young people that amazing careers can be built in logistics.’
