Queen’s praise for Chambers’ support

Her Majesty the Queen has today written a letter to Chambers of Commerce across the UK praising them for their role in supporting businesses and the economy throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

She also offered support to businesses across the country as many begin to re-open and reboot as lockdown restrictions start to ease.

The letter reads: “At a time of great difficulty for many, it is heart-warming to see the civic response and generosity of so many businesses, small and large, to the challenges posed, whether supporting the health sector or vulnerable communities.

”As Patron of the British Chambers of Commerce, it gives me great pride to see the contribution you and your members are making to help firms, champion trade and rebuild communities.”

Welcoming the letter, Scott Knowles, Chief Executive of East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire), said: “East Midlands Chamber and its sister organisations across the UK Chamber Network have played a pivotal role in helping businesses, employees and communities during the coronavirus crisis, by acting as a central point for information, guidance and practical support to help them get to grips with the unfolding situation and navigate things like grant funding, furlough and other Government interventions.

“In the East Midlands, we’ve tried to showcase and champion the great work that our businesses have done to support the NHS and key workers in the national fight against Covid-19, as well as develop and deliver a tailored programme of support and online events to help our members stay connected, adapt their operations and increase their resilience to the economic shocks the pandemic has created.

“The Queen’s personal message of support will be a huge morale boost to our business communities at this complex and sensitive time. We’re grateful that Her Majesty has recognised the crucial role that Chambers of Commerce play in enhancing businesses and communities through the pandemic, and will continue to do so as firms look to get Britain back open for business and build a swift and sustainable recovery.”
