Surge in job enquiries at Midlands recruitment consultancy

Midlands-based job hunters have stepped up their efforts to climb the career ladder, with one recruitment consultancy arranging nearly three thousand candidate meetings since the start of the year.

Macildowie had already seen the number of applications from those seeking new opportunities, jump by more than four thousand in January compared to December and this trend has continued throughout February and March with interest in vacancies up significantly on this time last year.

Managing director James Taylor, who is based at the firm’s Nottingham headquarters, said the new opportunities reflect the changing priorities of employers:

“Company directors are well-aware they need to deliver on their strategic – not just operational – goals, which means project management skills are in high demand at the moment. As businesses prepare for Brexit, and a possible economic slowdown, they could also look to bolster their HR and restructuring capabilities.

“Industry figures show that job vacancies rose significantly in the Midlands last year and are projected to increase further this year.

“Along with opportunities in traditional sectors such as logistics, finance and HR, one of the biggest growth areas is tech – including fintech (financial technology), virtual reality and digital marketing. This means demand for data science, artificial intelligence, coding and cyber security skills are needed, though employers will equally look for applicants with the ‘soft skills’ to adapt to new technologies and think creatively.

“Nobody knows what is going to happen post- Brexit, but as always, agile companies that make the most of opportunities in the market will prosper.”

Offering his tips to job hunters, James added:

“Always make sure your LinkedIn profile is up-to-date, so that headhunters can find you and don’t be afraid to network with the managers and leaders of your company’s competitors. You never know what opportunities are around the corner, so I’d urge people to register with our dream job service to find out about new roles even if you are not actively looking.”

Macildowie celebrated the end of 2018 by winning the ‘Best Large Recruitment Agency’ award at the National Online Recruitment Awards in London and followed this success by ranking 23rd in the prestigious Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to Work For.
