Futures secures skills and employment award

A skills and employment programme that has helped nearly 100 people in under a year has scooped an industry award.

The Futures Gateways project, run by Futures Housing Group, was crowned winner in the Excellence in Employment, Skills & Training category at the central region’s Tenant Participation Advisory Service (TPAS) awards last week.

Since launching in May 2016, Futures Gateways has worked with 93 individuals helping 17 step onto the career ladder and delivered more than 200 one-to-one careers advice sessions.

The programme run by the East Midlands-based housing association offers employment and skills training for customers and supports them to get back into work, learn new skills and access volunteering opportunities.

Futures Housing Group Employability Officer Jenny Ball said: “‘Developing this new service for our customers from scratch and being recognised for the work we have achieved in a short time is great.

“We offer a bespoke service to our customers to support them achieve their goals, but we couldn’t do it without help from our partners including Access Training, local contractors and job centres.”

Futures’ Customer Experience Director Suki Jandu said: “We know our customers really value Futures Gateways and the opportunities it offers so we’re thrilled to be recognised for excellence at the TPAS awards.

“We’re committed to supporting customers to achieve their potential so whether it’s providing training or work experience we’re helping to boost confidence and provide tips for returning to or starting work.”

Having claimed the central title, Futures will now be entered into the national finals with winners from the north and south regions. The overall winner will be announced in July.
