ncn’s Food Festival went down a treat

Staff, students and visitors from New College Nottingham came together in a celebration of the city’s growing food, catering and hospitality industry on Friday 3rd July for ncn’s first ever Food Festival.

The event, which was organised by Level 3 Hospitality and Catering students went down a treat with visitors enjoying a whole host of culinary activities, from cooking demonstrations, world record attempts and food stalls to chocolate decorating, smoothie making and food sampling.

Award-winning master butcher Johnny Pusztai gave onlookers a lesson in sausage making and shared his cooking tips and butchery knowhow.

He said: “It’s always an absolute pleasure visiting ncn. The students obviously put a lot of effort into this event and there was a great turnout which was fantastic.”

Katie Owen and Luke Orridge are both studying the Professional Chefs Diploma at ncn and had a stall selling fruit kebabs. Katie said:

“We chose to focus on strawberries and other summer fruits because we thought they’d be popular at this time of year, especially with Wimbledon taking place at the moment. The festival had a great atmosphere, and our stall went down really well.

“Working alongside students from different ncn catering courses and seeing what they made for the festival was fun and it was good to take part in a large event like this with real paying customers.”
