IoD begins search for East Midlands Chair

The Institute of Directors (IoD) is seeking a new chair to become the voice of business for the East Midlands.

Current chair Garry Smith is stepping down after five years in the post.

The successful applicant will oversee a region which covers Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and has more than 1,500 members.

The IoD aims to get closer to members by strengthening its network of branches within the East Midlands region which comprise ambassadors representing the sectors and geographies within its five counties.

The new chair will help drive membership growth while implementing and supporting IoD policies and driving engagement with the Institute’s powerful Policy Voice.

Garry Smith said:

“This is a rare opportunity to be the voice of business in the East Midlands. It is a role that will add value to your career and your organisation.

“Through the IoD, you will meet a wide range of businesses and get the inside track on what directors are thinking, from start-ups through to SMEs and the largest companies in the region.

“In turn, you will work with the IoD policy team and director general to ensure that the views of regional businesses are heard in the corridors of power.”

Natalie Sykes, who was recently appointed IoD regional director for the East Midlands, said:

“The successful candidate will take on this challenging and rewarding role at a time of great change for the IoD.

“We are innovating our membership offering, working closely with academia, local authorities, LEPs and other business groups to roll out our world class director development more widely across the region.

“This is an opportunity to be a true champion for the East Midlands and its business community.”

The deadline for applications is 9 March 2020 with interviews on 30 March and 2 April. To find out more, contact IoD.eastmidlands@iod.com
