BREXIT PRIORITY LIST – EXPORTS FROM JANUARY 2021

7 Things you must do immediately to prepare if you EXPORT to or through Europe.

  1. Agree trading terms with your customers and ensure all parties are aware to their respective responsibilities throughout the journey. Where you currently organize the transport from your premises to delivered consider DAP terms otherwise you would be liable for Import customs costs along with Duties & Taxes. Similarly, where your supplier would usually arrange the transport from your premises consider FCA terms otherwise they could be liable for UK customs brokerage costs.
  2. Check your customer has nominated a customs broker in their respective territory to handle customs import declarations.
  3. Ensure your commercial invoice contains critical data to enable accurate and seamless customs declarations to be transacted for both export and import declarations. See a commercial invoice example here.
  4. Provide example commercial paperwork to your customer enabling them communicate with their broker & check that details contained will satisfy import customs requirements in their respective territories.
  5. Speak with your Customs broker and ensure they have your clearance instructions (CPC code) this details to them the correct procedure is followed when completing the export declaration. (CPC codes as set out here on the .Gov website)
  6. Ensure you speak with your transport provider to understand timelines & routings in order to plan dispatches correlate with availability of commercial paperwork.
  7. Speak with your Spatial Global representative for further advice & the most up to date information.

Exports to the EU will need to follow the full EU import procedures. This means from 1 January 2021 export declarations and UK exit Safety and Security declarations will be required for all relevant goods. Exporters will need to follow the full export process and all relevant documents must be provided for your consignment.
