Mansfield housing development awarded D2N2 funding

The Lindhurst Development in Mansfield has been awarded a £3 million grant from the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.

Consisting of four proposed phases, the £250million development, which is being built on land part-owned by the County Council, will feature up to 1700 new homes (of which 30% will be affordable), almost 190,000 m2 of employment floor space and 31,000 m2 of commercial space. There are also plans for a local centre, a community park, and a local school.

With phase one of the project progressing well and due to deliver the first 530 housing units to the site, the D2N2 funding will go towards phase two of the development involving the construction of a spine road to serve the wider development and the surrounding area.

The spine road will unlock space for 475 homes plus a local centre including shops, a health centre, care homes, and a new primary school and nursery. Local bus links and green routes will also be established to support as many as 4000 new jobs.

Work on phase two is due to begin in January 2021 and be completed by March 2022

The project is one of ten across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire which has received funding from D2N2’s £44 million share of the government’s £900 million Getting Building Fund.

The programme of investment is being used to improve digital infrastructure; support skills and career opportunities; and the transition to a low carbon economy to drive economic growth following the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The Lindhurst development is just the latest capital investment D2N2 has made in Mansfield and follows investments into the redevelopment of the town’s Old Town Hall and the Allied Health Care Provision facility based at Vision West Notts College and operated by Nottingham Trent University.

D2N2 LEP Chair, Elizabeth Fagan CBE said:

“This development will be key to shaping the future of Mansfield. It has the needs of the local community at its core, providing homes and new jobs to improve the prospects for the whole area.

“Through the Getting Building Fund, D2N2 is investing in projects that will drive the regeneration of our regional economy, adapt to new opportunities, and create a more resilient economy for everyone.” 

Welcoming the successful bid, Nottinghamshire County Council Leader, Councillor Kay Cutts MBE said:

“I’m delighted this ambitious project which will create jobs, improve skills and bring better housing, is moving to the next stage thanks to confirmation of our successful bid in line with Government direction.

"Now more than ever we need regeneration projects like these to boost economic growth for Nottinghamshire. Once completed, it will generate a £100m a year for the local economy and create a brighter future for generations to come.”

Richard Bowden of the Lindhurst Group said:

“The grant was approved following weeks of intense effort by the project team, to all of whom we give sincere thanks.  This is the first step to providing approximately 1,110 new job opportunities in the area.”
