Derby BID businesses see growth in repeat custom – thanks to money-saving app

Businesses in Derby have praised the launch of a new money-saving app, saying it has already proved ‘invaluable’ in attracting – and keeping – new customers.

The free app, LoyalFree, supported and used by local Derby businesses, promotes money-off deals, local events, and interactive listings.

Since it launched last month, hundreds of visitors to Derby’s Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) have downloaded LoyalFree with shoppers unlocking discounts and deals from shops, cafes, restaurants, and bars across the two BID areas.

James Hurdis from Derby business Canopy, a BID levy payer in the Cathedral Quarter, said:

“The app has been a fantastic initiative, and we have been welcoming users of the LoyalFree app into our store. We’ve added an exclusive offer on the app, and we look forward to seeing it develop over time.”

In addition to money saving deals, LoyalFree gives visitors the chance to discover new interactive trails, find local events and enter exclusive competitions in the area. The latest competition gives customers the chance to win £50 worth of shopping vouchers for a business of their choice in either Cathedral Quarter or St Peters Quarter.

Once downloaded onto your smartphones, you will have access to a host of individual offers and discounts by way of a simple QR code scan, allowing you to make the most of your shopping experience, whilst supporting local businesses.

Brad Worley, BID Manager for Cathedral Quarter Derby and St Peters Quarter Derby, is excited that more and more people are downloading LoyalFree.

He said:

“It has been a great success. With such pressures on household budgets right now, it’s good to be able to help visitors to the two BID areas make their money go further. It is also a marvellous opportunity for businesses in these two vibrant areas of Derby to showcase their offerings to a wider audience.

“I encourage more people to download it – it’s a brilliant opportunity. As we develop use of the app further, we’ll be adding more offers, so it really is worth downloading and getting involved.”

Several exciting interactive trails are already live on the app, with more to come. Users can choose from the Cafe Culture Trail and The World Food Trail in the Cathedral Quarter, as well as the newly created Halloween Trail in St Peters Quarter.

The spooky trail encourages visitors to move around the BID area to 15 different businesses where a poster is displayed with a unique QR code. The aim is to scan all 15 QR codes so you can cast a spell to help Wanda the Witch find her beloved cat. Each time a QR code is scanned, visitors are entered into a prize draw to win a large goodie hamper created by businesses in the area. To take part all you need to do is download the Loyal Free app and select tours and trails.

As an added bonus, every time a shopper collects a loyalty stamp via the app, LoyalFree will donate 1p to charity, meaning that shoppers can give while they save. The app is free to register and use and can be downloaded by visiting www.loyalfree.co.uk.
