Expanding local brickwork experts start work building 170 new homes on six-acre site in Leeds

Fast-growing Derbyshire brickwork, scaffolding and drywall business, Phoenix Brickwork, has started work building new homes on a six-acre site in Leeds.

The now national firm, which set up just a decade ago in Belper, clinched the £2.4m contract to help create over 170 homes at Throstle Recreation Ground.

Phoenix Brickwork, which has offices in Pinxton, will spend the next 18 months bringing the £40m housing project to life in Leeds.

The new development is being built by Wates Construction Ltd on behalf of Leeds City Council. It will feature 100 two, three and four-bedroom homes, 60 apartments – complete with communal areas - a hair salon and roof garden and 17, one-bedroom bungalows for wheelchair users.

More than two hectares of land on the Throstle Recreation Ground will be kept as public green space for play and dog walking, landscaping, and sustainable drainage features to promote biodiversity. A community football pitch will also be created.

Operating from its Derbyshire and Northamptonshire offices, Phoenix Brickwork recently celebrated a ten-year trading milestone of £20m and recruited more members of staff to help the business branch out into London.
