Leicester manufacturer marks 30th birthday with £500,000 of orders

A Leicester company that specialises in bespoke manufacturing and fabrication has extra reasons to celebrate its 30th anniversary after securing a raft of new contracts totalling just under £500,000.

The new projects for Aerofab Fabrications in Wigston – which designs, manufactures and installs bespoke metalwork – also mean it has started a recruitment drive and is currently looking for up to four new people to join its 40-strong team.

The West Avenue-based company is on the hunt for experienced welders to fulfil a range of orders – including one for specialist lifting equipment used in industry – as the company goes from strength to strength as a specialist in welded fabrications and sheet metalwork. It has manufactured equipment for industries including food production, medical and pharmaceutical, transportation, rail, glass processing, construction, and nuclear energy.

The founder of the family-run business, Peter James, said the orders are a great way to help the company celebrate its 30th birthday – and set the company up for the next 30 years.

“We have built a business on saying ‘yes’ to customers when other fabricators or manufacturers have said ‘no, it can’t be done’,” said Peter. “We have thrived on the challenge of designing and manufacturing items, many of them one-offs to fulfil very specific needs. For example, we manufactured metal shipping pallets for the air freight industry that had to withstand testing where they were dropped 500ft from a helicopter and remain in one piece.

“It’s a proud moment to reach such a milestone and realise that our success has its roots firmly founded in great people, who are very skilled and experienced and who all share the same passion and commitment for what we do. There’s no way we’d have been able to celebrate our 30th birthday if it wasn’t for them.”

Aerofab Fabrications’ adaptability has been the key to its success and longevity, according to Peter’s daughter, Donna James.

“Our factory floor is an exciting place to be, as there’s always something new or different that we’re working on,” said Donna.

“For example, at one time we could be working on an innovative device for the elimination of bacteria on the surfaces of medical equipment by means of electronically controlled 360-degree exposure to UV. The next, it could be manufacturing a conveyor system for a food producer that includes slicers, packaging sanitiser units, and even dough-mixing and -chunking equipment.”

Peter summed up by saying: “As well as winning new business, we also have other plans in place to expand our business, and we’re hoping to announce these very soon. But for now, we’ll celebrate as a company and toast to the good fortune that got us to the 30-year mark.”
