The importance of giving back

The importance of giving back

For Essential Print Services, giving back to the community isn’t just a nice thing to do. It’s essential.

Since 2011, when Yvonne Gorman formed the company, the ethos of giving back has always been at the heart of the business, with a strong emphasis placed on ensuring that everything contributes to towards this goal and benefits the wider community. The most recent steps have been supporting local charities and furthering the company’s work with not-for-profit organisations.

For example, Essential Print Services has been a long-standing supporter of the me&dee charity and is now a Platinum Sponsor, helping the charity by supplying discounted and where possible, free, print. This has been invaluable to the charity, as Maria Hanson MBE, founder of me&dee charity, discussed:

“As a charity, it is essential that we form partnerships with businesses who are engaged with our organisation. Not only is Essential Print Services engaged with me&dee charity but, they have been enthusiastic ambassadors for several years. They support our charity in a number of ways; they are Platinum Sponsors, they supply us with discounted print services and I can call upon them for ideas and advice.”

The company has also become an Official Supporter of the Derbyshire Institute of Sport, helping the charity to further its mission to help inspire and support Derbyshire athletes to become world-class champions. Further to that last year, when CreativeMornings launched at the QUAD in Derby, Yvonne arranged for Essential Print to be able to support the city’s role in the worldwide creative community project by becoming a Local Partner, enabling monthly events with informative guest speakers and networking to take place.

"We are all in the relationship business. As an event for our local community it’s vital we have local partnerships like the one we have with Yvonne at Essential Print Services. Not only do they help with our promotional material they are great community members and advocates,” commented Tim Elliott, Host of CreativeMornings Derby.

Yvonne has also played an active part in contributing to the success of the Small Business Saturday campaign in Derby. She has been a Small Business Champion, visiting Downing Street as part of this, and in 2019 was appointed one of seven “local heroes” nationwide. As part of this work she dedicates her time to hosting events and providing extensive marketing activity, all free of charge to benefit local businesses.

“When customers buy print from Essential Print Services, they are not just supporting a local business but, they are supporting the local community too. The ethos of ‘giving back’ has been in the company’s DNA since it began in 2011. For us, it’s not just about profits and creating jobs; it’s about giving back and helping others to thrive too,” explained Yvonne Gorman.
