Farm shop's festive support for children's charity

A Northampton farm which specialises in selling freshly cut Christmas trees over the festive period has pledged to help children in care across Northampton.
The Brampton branch of Smiths Farm Shop has decided to support children in care this Christmas by promising a donation from each tree sale.
Once the total amount has been collected, it will be given to former social worker Jeanette Walsh, the county’s Christmas campaign co-ordinator who will purchase presents on behalf of Smiths.
Also, affectionally known as ‘Mother Christmas’ she said:
“There are kids out there who have a real tough time of it. For whatever reason, there will be thousands of children in care this Christmas who may not be lucky enough to be gifted anything at all. All we want to do is put a smile on as many faces as possible and with the help of Smiths Farm Shop, we’ll be able to do that.
“For anybody out there wondering where to get their tree from this year, I hope they decide to go to Smiths Farm Shop, because not only do they have an excellent choice of trees, but they are also attempting to help make Christmas more special for kids in care.”
In addition, Smiths Farm Shop has also donated a Christmas tree to the Leaving Care Team which works with young people who are about to leave care. Every year staff hold a Christmas party for the young people and the tree will be the focal point of the event.
Proprietor of the farm shop, Adrian Smith said:
“We’re all about family here at Smiths Farm Shop and we feel very lucky to have each other. But, there are hundreds of children across the county who are not so fortunate and for whatever reason may not be spending Christmas with their loved ones.
“Many of them will be facing the festive period in foster care or in a children’s home and there’s no guarantee that Father Christmas will be visiting those kids. That’s why we decided to launch our Gift in Care campaign, which will hopefully help spread a bit of Christmas cheer among the children who need it the most."
Smiths Farm Shop has been selling Christmas trees for more than 30 years and believe the firs they sell will last longer than trees bought elsewhere. This is because they are cut fresh from a Leicestershire plantation and are transported straight to the farm where they will be laid out immediately for sale.
This year, for the first time ever, farm visitors will be able to view a massive range of trees displayed across the field so they can see exactly what it is they are buying before completing their festive transaction.
Staff will be on hand to net the tree and carry it to every customer’s car, helping to make the business of Christmas tree buying that little bit easier.
The trees range in sizes from 3ft to over 13ft and prices vary depending on how big shoppers decide to go.
Smiths also specialise in luxury food items, a variety of gifts and everything you need for the Christmas dinner table.
The Smith family have been in business since 1958. Proud of their heritage, the company supports like-minded local food producers, providing them with an outlet to sell their homegrown products.
