Local business owners bring back Derby Sportive Challenge

Derby-based Koobr and Purely Digital are joining forces to bring back the recently-cancelled September Cycle Derby Sportive.

The much-anticipated event, scheduled for 22 September, was unfortunately called-off by event organisers.

Now, Andrew Edmondson and Craig Barker — from print specialist Purely Digital and marketing agency Koobr respectively — have teamed up after colleagues and friends within the business community expressed their disappointment that the event would no longer be taking place.

“A lot of local businesses and communities take part in the Derby Sportive every year,” said Craig. “It’s something that people have been looking forward to for quite some time — ourselves included.

“It would be a massive shame to not go ahead just because the event is now officially closed. That’s why we’re letting people know that a few of us are still going ahead. We’d love for everybody who was planning on taking part to come and join us.”

The Derby Sportive has traditionally offered four distances covering North Derbyshire and the Peak District, each with varying levels of difficulty.

“We wanted to invite everybody, not just avid cyclists,” said Andrew. “That’s why we’ve chosen a route that’s not too challenging — a fun and comfortable 40km ride out towards Carsington Reservoir with plenty of gorgeous scenery. But there will definitely be a few hills along the way to get the blood pumping. It should be a great day.

“We’ve already had quite a few people get in touch when they heard we were doing it, and we look forward to seeing a few more on the day.”

The group will be setting off from Markeaton Park, on Sunday 22 September, at 10am.
