Charity fundraising, helping the homeless and preserving the environment are just some of the impactful initiatives led by Luxfer Gas Cylinders in 2024, as the Colwick-based cylinder manufacturer reflects on a year of giving back to the community.
Employing more than 200 people at its Nottingham site, Luxfer champions a culture of care and generosity through its formal volunteering programme, which gives employees paid time off to support charitable causes.
In the spirit of Christmas, Luxfer employees recently collected over 50 toys as part of the Cash for Kids Mission Christmas Toy Appeal, with the company donating a further £250 towards helping to bring festive cheer to disadvantaged children across the UK.
Throughout the year, the team also embraced other opportunities to give back. In October, they hosted a successful bake sale and bra collection to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The initiative raised more than £180, which the company matched.
Beyond fundraising, the team rolled up their sleeves to help All Hallows Primary School in Gedling by gardening, weeding and painting. Luxfer also donated £500 towards a ‘mud kitchen’ for the school playground, designed to enhance creative play and development.
During the summer, Luxfer employees turned their attention to preserving local history and wildlife. Volunteers spent the day at Wollaton Hall and Deer Park, an iconic Grade I listed Elizabethan estate in Nottingham, clearing paths and helping maintain the park’s natural beauty.
Employees also participated in a football shirt fundraising campaign for bowel cancer in April, with the company donating £500 to Cancer Research UK.
In February, the Luxfer team supported Emmanual House Support Centre, which offers support to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, by volunteering to cook a hot meal for vulnerable people during the cold winter months.
Katherine Rubin, Luxfer’s People Business Partner, says:
“Community engagement has always been a cornerstone of Luxfer’s mission, and we are pleased to provide a platform for employees to use their time, skills and experience to make a tangible difference in the community. Our volunteering programme empowers staff to use their annual charity allowance to contribute to projects they are passionate about, exemplifying the company’s core values of integrity, teamwork, and community spirit.
“This year, our team has gone above and beyond, supporting meaningful initiatives and embodying the spirit of giving back. We look forward to continuing this important work in 2025, fostering an environment where our employees can champion charitable causes that are close to their hearts.”
