Amazon team gives generous funds to local learning disability charity

A £1,000 donation from Chesterfield’s Amazon fulfilment centre will help provide life-changing services to local people with a learning disability.

Sheffield Mencap & Gateway have been providing services and support to people with a learning disability or autism and their families in Sheffield since 1951. Their vision is that all people with a learning disability and their carers in Sheffield are valued, included and respected.

so they can live fair, full and happy lives.

Donations from the team at the Amazon fulfilment centre will support Sheffield Mencap & Gateway – a local service which has supported people with a learning disability and their families in Sheffield since 1951. This includes providing education for adults at the charity’s Activity and Learning Hub (ALH), which runs at its purpose-built centre in Norfolk Lodge.

Richard Cowlishaw- Ellison, Site Leader at Amazon Chesterfield, said:

“We are pleased to support to Sheffield Mencap and Gateway with this donation. The charity’s services are invaluable to the people in our community who have a learning disability or who are caring for loved ones.”

Adam Wesson, who works at the Amazon fulfilment centre in Chesterfield and nominated Sheffield Mencap and Gateway for a donation added:

“I’m over the moon my suggestion to donate to Sheffiled Mencap and Gateway was chosen. I have no doubt the charity will be helped by this funding.”

Carol Cook from Sheffield Mencap and Gateway, said:

“I want to say a huge thank you to the Amazon team on behalf of everyone at Sheffield Mencap & Gateway for nominating us to receive this donation. It is fantastic to have the support of businesses like Amazon because without it, we wouldn't be able to provide our services for the community.”

The donation to Sheffiled Mencap and Gateway was made as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK.

Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering more than five million healthy breakfasts to families in England.
