Miller Homes Helps Allestree Children Get Home Safe This October

It’s Walk to School month, and leading homebuilder, Miller Homes East Midlands, is helping children in Allestree travel to and from school safely by donating high-vis vests to children local to its Kedleston Grange development, as part of its Home Safe initiative.

After a successful two years in Scotland, Miller Homes has expanded its Home Safe campaign for a third year, this time across the entire UK. Children at nearby Portway Infant School will benefit from the high-vis vests. As the morning and afternoon walks get a little darker, it’s hoped the bright yellow bibs will ensure local children are visible to drivers whether they are walking, cycling or scootering to school.

According to the most recent Government reports, the national average for children who walk to school is 46%. This is likely to increase in 2022, as families look to be healthier and more energy efficient.

Alastair Parsons, area sales director for Miller Homes Midlands, said:

“Getting to and from school is such an important part of a child’s daily routine and being active while doing it is great for their mental and physical wellbeing. Our Home Safe initiative is designed to help kids to be as safe as possible on those journeys, educating them on the importance of being visible to other road users, which will instill good safety habits for years to come.”

Commenting on the partnership, Lisa McSherry, Headteacher at Portway Infant School, added:

“We were so grateful to Miller Homes for inviting us to collaborate on the launch of its Home Safe campaign. Keeping our children safe when walking around their local area is a high priority for us all at Portway Infant school. The darker nights and mornings are approaching quickly, and so high-vis vests are a great way to keep our pupils safe when travelling to and from school.

“We can also use the high-vis vests for our trips walking around the community over the coming months. Thank you to the Miller Homes team – what a great way to help us keep everyone safe!”
