Former Chair Raises Vital Funds For Safe and Sound

The former chair of Derbyshire’s specialist child exploitation charity Safe and Sound has raised £848 for the organisation by completing the gruelling 192 mile Coast to Coast Walk.

Allen Graham was chair of trustees at the charity before passing over the mantle to Derby businessman Mark Richardson earlier this year.

He pledged before he left his position to continue to support the charity through awareness and fund raising and set about planning the two-week Coast to Coast Walk trip which he completed in nearly 86 hours over a 16 day period.

Mr Graham said:

“Ever since I walked the Lyke Wake walk at the age of 17 I have wanted to challenge myself by walking the Coast-to-Coast route which I regard as my ultimate challenge.

“My motivation has been galvanised by a separate passion to assist others. I therefore completed this challenge to raise money for two charities – Prostate Cancer UK and Safe and Sound which is a charity personal to me in recognition of the valuable work they do to support vulnerable young people who remain at risk of exploitation.

“I have been delighted with the support both I and the charity have received. I hope the funds I have raised will ensure that the lives of the young people of Derby and Derbyshire will be transformed.”

Safe and Sound CEO Tracy Harrison added:

“Allen has done a great deal for the charity both during and since his time as chair and we are very grateful for choosing us as joint recipients of the sponsorship he raised for this epic adventure.”
