Children First Derby Platinum Jubilee celebration raises £2,500

In honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, local charity Children First Derby held a celebratory Platinum Jubilee Afternoon Tea event, on 24th May 2022 at The Kedleston Country House, which raised £2,500 to help support local vulnerable children, young people, and families.

The sold-out Platinum Afternoon Tea event, proudly sponsored by Merchant’s Jewellers, was well attended by prominent local business leaders and long-standing supporters of the charity.

Also in attendance was Children First Derby founder Etheleen Mildred Wigley (Milly) who was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 2017 and awarded an MBE for her outstanding contribution and services to support vulnerable children in Derby.

Children First Derby CEO, Irshad Baqui said:

“We are delighted to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, to recognise and appreciate Her Majesty’s 70 years of dedication and service.

“Throughout her historic reign, Her Majesty has supported and promoted charitable causes and voluntary work, and in 2020 Children First Derby were honoured to receive the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

"I would like to thank everyone here for your continued support. Today’s event has raised an incredible £2,500, helping us support local vulnerable children, young people and families.”

As part of the event guests were treated to an afternoon of luxury, enjoying a sparking welcome drink, followed by a delightful Afternoon Tea served in The Kedleston Country House’s luxurious Orangery, with live music from talented vocalist Holly Victoria.

Various fundraising activities took place throughout the afternoon, including a luxury raffle offering a wealth of spectacular gift prizes, including an array of exquisite jewellery kindly donated by event sponsors, Merchant’s Jewellers.

A range of Royal Pearl jewellery collection from award-winning contemporary Jewellery designer, Lucy Quartermaine, was also available to purchase at the event. The stunning collection was inspired by the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, using platinum recycled silver and the Queen’s most memorable jewellery motif of pearls.

A special thank you bouquet of flowers was presented to Tanita Merchant, Director of Merchant’s Jewellers, by Children First Derby Chair, Fred Jacques. Tanita was thanked for her incredible generosity and continued efforts to support the charity.
