Boost for school's outdoor space thanks to help from local housebuilder

A Leicestershire primary school has a fantastic outside area to grow fruit and vegetables and attract bees along with improved parking thanks to developer Grace Homes.

Hallaton Primary, located close to Walnut View, received support from the housebuilder through its Local Foundations initiative – specifically created to provide help in the locations where it is creating new homes. A combination of the developer’s building skills and generous donations of materials and plants from its contractors transformed what was unusable space into an outdoor classroom where the children can learn about the natural world.

Following a morning of planting, Year 2 teacher, Mrs K Mallalieu said:

“It was a lovely experience for the children covering so many curriculum topics.  Having the raised beds full of edible plants will definitely enhance the children's learning and they will get great enjoyment watering and tasting the produce.  A huge thank you to Grace Homes for their generosity.”

Construction Director Peter Hutorka said:

“It was our pleasure to provide assistance to Hallaton Primary through our Local Foundations initiative. It was a real team effort, and we’d like to give special thanks to Carrier Landscapes and Sulney Nursery for their generous donations. We’ve had great fun helping the children with their planting today, and hope this helps to develop a lifelong love of the natural world.”
