Dunelm to deliver joy to local older people this Christmas

Dunelm to deliver joy to local older people this Christmas

This Christmas, leading British home furnishings retailer, Dunelm is joining forces with local Leicestershire charity Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland with an aim to “Deliver Joy at Christmas” to local older people.

Colleagues at Dunelm’s Syston-based Store Support Centre are being encouraged to spread kindness and give back to their local community this winter by donating a gift to one of Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland’s day centre users.

The campaign, Delivering Joy at Christmas, will give Dunelm colleagues the opportunity to really make a difference this festive season. A Christmas tree in Dunelm’s Syston office will be filled with Delivering Joy tags, with each one representing an individual old person; colleagues will choose a tag and buy a gift for the older person which will then be delivered by Age UK LS&R’s and Dunelm’s representatives, who will see for themselves the joy of a gift at Christmas.

Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland is an independent local charity, working in the local community to help older people live happier, active, fulfilled, and socially engaged lives.

“It’s really important for Dunelm colleagues to be able to give back to the local community and our Delivering Joy campaign is the perfect way for them to do so. We are extremely proud of the campaign and the engagement from all our colleagues wanting to support Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland.  We hope to deliver 400 gifts to Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland during December, helping them to share some joy with individuals who may otherwise not receive anything at Christmas or sadly may not even see anyone over the festive season.”

Tony Donovan, Executive Director at Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland added:

“For many older people Christmas can be a very lonely time. We are delighted to be working with such an established retailer as Dunelm.

If it wasn’t for our Day Care services many local older people would go for weeks without leaving their homes or seeing another person. Attending one of our Day Care centres means that many people are making friends, eating healthy meals, and taking part in activities, helping to keep their mind and bodies healthy. Receiving a gift at Christmas will make all our Day Care clients feel like they are not forgotten and will definitely bring joy.”
