KEGWORTH TEAM RUNS FOR HEROES

A charity established in 2020 to support the NHS has received a £1,000 donation from the Amazon fulfilment centre in Kegworth.

Run For Heroes was set up in response to the COVID-19 pandemic with the main aim of raising funds to support the NHS in the fight against COVID-19. The funds raised by the charity help to encourage mass participation in sport, while raising money for health and wellbeing causes throughout the UK.

The charity, which has volunteers in Kegworth and across Leicestershire, launched a campaign last year called #Run5Donate5Nominate5.

The campaign raised more than £7 million for the NHS Charities Together COVID-19 Appeal by challenging the public to run or walk 5k and donate £5 to help support the NHS. The challenge started as a small social media challenge and quickly grew in popularity across the UK.

To date, more than one and a half million people have taken part in Run for Heroes activities, getting active and giving back to society.

The charity organised its latest 5k event in May 2021, encouraging participants to complete a 5k in an activity of their choice. Participants could walk, run, cycle or swim while raising money.

Commenting on the donation, Celia Syme, General Manager at Amazon in Kegworth, added:

“We’re really pleased to support such a worthwhile cause and it was great to see members of the team getting involved in the 5k event.”

Olivia Strong, Founder of Run For Heroes, added:

“On behalf of everyone at Run For Heroes, I want to say thank you to Celia and the team for selecting us for this donation. Every donation we receive is really appreciated and it’s great to see people engage in our fundraising efforts.”

The charity received the donation as part Amazon’s programme to support the communities around its operating locations across the UK.

Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during COVID-19.

Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering more than four million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.
