NOTTINGHAMSHIRE LGBT+ CHARITY RECEIVES DONATION FROM AMAZON

A charity that supports children and young people who identify as LGBT+ has received a £1,000 donation from the Amazon fulfilment centre team in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

LGBT+ Service Nottinghamshire provides a range of specialist services for children and young people aged 11-25, creating a safe and non-judgemental place where they can be themselves.

The charity also provides training and consultancy services for professionals across the private, public and voluntary sectors.

The donation follows the fulfilment centre’s celebration of Pride Month in June as part of Amazon’s commitment to shining a light on the stories and achievements of LGBTQ+ colleagues.

Speaking on the donation, Georgia Akuwudike, Site Leader at Amazon in Sutton-in-Ashfield, said:

“Following Pride Month, we wanted to make a donation to a local charity that is doing great work for the LGBT+ community. We hope this donation supports the charity’s services throughout Nottinghamshire.”

Yasmin Scollard, who nominated LGBT+ Service Nottinghamshire, added:

“I am pleased that LGBT+ Service Nottinghamshire has been chosen to receive this donation from Amazon. I hope that it gives the charity a boost during what continues to be a challenging year.”

Christie Conroy from LGBT+ Service Nottinghamshire said:

“We are grateful for this donation from Georgia and the team. The money will be used to maintain our services, including counselling and support for both young people and their parents or carers.”

LGBT+ Service Nottinghamshire received the donation as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities around its operating locations across the UK.

Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during COVID-19.

Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering more than four million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.
