Spend your summer in Chesterfield

Spend your summer in Chesterfield

Families are being encouraged to find out what’s on offer to entertain the little ones this summer holidays, with a bumper package of activities running in Chesterfield.

Chesterfield Borough Council will be working with local partners to deliver events and activities across the town centre, local parks, Chesterfield Museum and leisure centres.

Councillor Kate Sarvent, cabinet member for town centre and visitor economy, said: “We’ve got lots planned that will make a family staycation really exciting and we’ve tried to make sure everyone can create great memories together this summer without breaking the bank.

“I encourage everyone to take a look at what’s going on across the borough, as there’s something for everyone to enjoy right here on our doorstep.”

Love Chesterfield

Together with Destination Chesterfield, we’re running a new-look events programme as part of our Love Chesterfield campaign, which means the town centre will be a hive of activity.

In July our leisure team will be in the town centre to celebrate the Olympics with have-a-go activities including cycling with an exercise bike on 29 July, a Gymnastics demo on 30 July and a climbing wall on 31 July.

Throughout August we’ll be running a pirate-themed town centre Treasure Hunt. This is completely free to take part in and there are some great prizes including a three-month family leisure membership. Simply pick up a sheet from the Visitor Information Centre or download it from our website, solve the clues and collect the answers from around the town.

Year of Outdoors

We launched our Year of Outdoors project in April and since then we’ve held lots of activities and events in our parks and green spaces.

August is the month of play and we’ve extended it slightly to include the last two weeks of July. We’ve got events for both adults and children lined up because play is for everyone.

Highlights include:

TagTap Join the Hunt is an interactive game that will be running across the summer throughout the borough. The virtual game is a scavenger hunt where you tap into tags located across the borough and then solve clues to find the next one. It’s a fantastic game that encourages everyone to explore the borough.

There are more than thirty different Year of Outdoors events throughout August available to book for free, including:

Multisport activity sessions with Samba Sports, Chesterfield Football Club Community Trust and Derby County Community Trust in parks across the borough throughout August.
