NORTH NOTTS GEARS UP FOR A SPECTACULAR SUMMER OF LOCAL EVENTS

PREPARATIONS are underway for a variety of events and activities in towns across North Nottinghamshire, which will provide local communities with outdoor entertainment over summer following the easing of lockdown restrictions.
The festivities - which are being delivered by North Notts BID - will showcase the region’s finest culinary and creative talents and begin with an eight-week sculpture trail that launches 18 June 2021.
The trail will see 40 uniquely designed BookBenches - which have been created by local schools and artists in partnership with Wild in Art - put on public display across Worksop, Retford, Harworth and Tuxford to help drive footfall towards local high streets.
Residents can use the soon-to-be-released trail map to track down the colourful sculptures that are inspired by journeys, adventure, freedom and pioneering spirit. Designs celebrate the area’s rich history and a range of journeys, including the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower crossing.
Sally Gillborn, chief executive of North Notts BID, said:
“We’re delighted to be bringing an action-packed summer of events to North Nottinghamshire. After having to postpone them last summer throughout lockdown, these events will signify a turning point where we can come together again and celebrate the best that our community has to offer.”
The BID’s annual North Notts FoodFest will be returning on 03 July 2021, attracting people to Worksop town centre to enjoy a selection of culinary activities. Located on the old market square, the free event will include live demonstrations by celebrity chefs - including Jean-Christophe Novelli and former Masterchef winner Laurence Henry - as well as a plethora of events and artisan food market stalls ran by local vendors.
Party in The Square will also be returning for another year in Retford, offering an array of free entertainment and food stalls throughout the day on 29 August 2019 - with X Factor star Alexandra Burke headlining the stage. The Bowkers will also be performing following a successful appearance at the event in 2019, alongside Ariana Grande tribute Amilia, ABBA Sensation and Hitch.

“We want to encourage everyone to come along with their friends and family, so we can all have a great summer while helping to reinvigorate the local economy. It’s been a tough year for everyone, so these events are a great way to celebrate lockdown restrictions lifting while driving footfall back to town centres.
“As an extra measure, we are also placing an additional large screen at the bandstand in Kings Park so that those wanting to stay socially distant can still come along with a picnic and enjoy the event.
“We hope that these events will kickstart a return to normality and be a catalyst to reinvigorating our fantastic local businesses.”
The North Notts LitFest takes place on the week commencing 13 September, with the finale on the 19 September marking the end of the BIDs summer events programme. The literary festival involves a variety of events for all ages, including readings performed by several notable authors, and writing and poetry competitions for children and adults to test their creative skills.
Retford and Worksop have already benefitted from the rollout of artistic pop-up installations and vibrant seating areas across their town centres, including dressings that pay homage to the Worksop’s production of Oxo cubes and Retford’s cycling heritage, pop up parks and picture-worthy angel wings. Provided by leading supplier of placemaking decorations City Dressing, the installations aim to also drive footfall to the high street and rejuvenate custom.

“These events and projects are essential in lifting community spirit across the districts – something that has never been more important – and they are always incredibly well received by residents in the local area.
“As the BID prepares to go to ballot again in 2022, we are asking our BID members for feedback on the benefits we bring to the local area, including these events and our many other projects and activities. We need to know what works, what we need to change and hear suggestions on how we can continue to support our BID members across the district over the next five years.”
