Sales increase as housebuilder meets growing demand for homes in lockdown

New homes sales are continuing to rise for Jones Homes Yorkshire after the developer committed to continuing construction through the recent lockdowns.

The company’s Yorkshire division manages eight developments across the county, and in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

Following a short closure of sites during the first lockdown in 2020, Jones Homes implemented safe working practices to ensure construction teams could continue working. This meant the company could meet demand for homes and protect contractors’ jobs.

Sales from May 2020 to January 2021 exceeded the developer’s performance in the same period one year earlier.

Jayne Swift, Sales and Marketing Director for Jones Homes Yorkshire, said:

“The increase in sales that we have witnessed over the past 12 months shows that, far from dampening down demand, the lockdown has actually stimulated greater activity in the housing market.

“The stay-at-home restrictions have encouraged people to consider whether their current house still meets their needs, and there has been a growing desire for better access to outdoor space. We have certainly seen lots of interest in our developments from buyers keen to relocate from neighbouring towns and cities to a more attractive village setting.

“With so many parts of the economy closed down or severely restricted by the lockdown measures, it is absolutely vital that sectors such as construction continue to do so in a Covid-secure way.”

The Government has prioritised keeping the construction industry open due to its importance to the wider economy.

Jayne added:

“The housebuilding industry is a crucial component of the wider UK economy, and it will have a particularly important role to play as the country’s finances recover.

“Not only does the industry provide highly skilled and well-paid jobs across a range of disciplines, it also provides an economic boost to communities and businesses. New developments lead to greater spending in local shops and generate financial contributions towards vital services and infrastructure.”

Jones Homes show homes and sales offices remain open to visitors by appointment only. People are encouraged to call or email to discuss their requirements before booking. Only one member of staff is present at the appointment. Protective screens have been installed and antibacterial hand sanitiser is provided for customers on arrival.

Jones Homes is currently building at developments across the East Midlands, including at Van Dyk Village near Clowne, as well as sites in Bolsover, Worksop and Harworth.
