BIRDS MAKES TOP 20 IN 2021 BAKERY MARKET REPORT

FAMILY-RUN Birds Bakery has made it into the top 20 of British Baker’s annual bakery market report, being the only East Midlands baker to do so.

The free report tracks out-of-home bakery market sales, listing the top 75 companies that sell baked goods as a primary element of their food offering. New to this year, the report also took into account major changes in operations, bestselling products, new product development, as well as how well companies adapted throughout the pandemic.

The family-run craft bakery is ploughing ahead with plans to expand by refurbishing its existing stores and opening a brand-new store in Nottingham this year.

Mike Holling, sales and marketing director at Birds Bakery, said:

“We’re delighted to have been recognised in British Baker’s bakery market report and to be listed as 19th best performing baker is a true testament.

“The pandemic was a really difficult time for many businesses, particularly within the bakery industry, but we’ve managed to expand our offerings by introducing our Birds by Post and home delivery services.

“We’d like to thank all our customers who have continued to stop by our stores for a takeaway coffee or something sweet over the last few months and we look forward to welcoming them all back inside next week to enjoy a pleasant and welcoming experience at Birds.”

Among Birds Bakery were national and popular chains including Costa, which took the top spot, followed by Subway, Greggs and Starbucks. A handful of new entrants also made it onto the market report this year, with more up-and-coming bakeries making a play for the UK market.
