BLUE SPACES: TIME SPENT BY WATER BRINGS HAPPINESS

Nottingham may be landlocked, but there are many beautiful places to spend time near water including the River Trent, Grantham Canal and lakes or ponds at Country Parks.

Mental Health Awareness Week takes place from the 10th to the 16th May in 2021. This year's theme is nature and ensuring everyone is able to share in the natural world and experience its mental health benefits.

Blue spaces have been shown to improve our health, body and mind. To celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week, Bluetonic is offering a free mindfulness walk along the Grantham Canal to Cotgrave Country Park.

Bluetonic is a new charity offering experiences on or near water and has developed a raft of walks near blue spaces you can enjoy yourself at https://www.bluetonic.org.uk/

Jane, who is taking the mindfulness walk said

‘Being near water has such a restorative effect and can lead to happiness by reducing negative mood and stress.  During lockdown, I haven’t been able to get to the coast and instead have really enjoyed exploring local blue spaces on foot.”

The mindfulness walk, along the Grantham Canal and into Cotgrave Country Park, will take place on 16th May and will last an hour and half.

Jane said

“We want to share the happiness from being close to blue spaces and give you ways to connect to yourself and nature’.

This walk is suitable for anyone who has an open mind and wants to find some calm.
