Timms Solicitors’ First Virtual Conference Supports Local Charities

Leading law firm Timms Solicitors has presented cheques to Derby and Burton Child Contact Centres following its annual childcare conference for fellow professionals.

Timms is recognised as a leading Family Law firm with an experienced childcare team working across its offices in Derby, Burton-upon-Trent and Swadlincote.

The firm held its annual conference virtually this year which focused on the issue of child contact.

Guest speakers at the event were Designated Family Judge, Her Honour Judge Susan Williscroft; Consultant Clinical Psychologist Dr Jacqueline Lynch; Andrew Hyde and Charlotte Cooklin from the national improvement service CAFCASS and authors of the organisation’s Positive Co-Parenting Programme; and Janet Bazley QC who explored the complexities and issues surrounding contact successfully taking place.

The conference was supported by the University of Derby who hosted the event on their in-house platform ‘Blackboard’ and provided technical support.

It was attended by a record 165 delegates from across the East Midlands representing the legal, local authority and Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (CAFCASS) professions.

Donations were presented afterwards to representatives from Derby and Burton Child Contact Centres who received £650 each.

The organisations are two of the largest entirely voluntary-supported contact centres in the country where non-resident parents or grandparents and their children can meet, play and interact.

The Derby centre are planning to develop an outdoor play area and Burton will use the money towards restoring funds after expenses incurred due to the pandemic.

Fiona Moffat explained:

“Our annual conferences are always well attended but we were delighted when a record number of delegates signed up this year.

“Each event is focused on a different aspect of law relating to children and are designed to share key topical knowledge across the profession, giving advice and understanding to help everyone in their day to day jobs.

“Timms always donate to a charity as part of this event and we were delighted to again support Derby Child Contact Centre and, this year, also the Burton centre who both have a very important role to play in the childcare system.”
