Irthlingborough housebuilder shows support to animal rescue charity

An Irthlingborough-based animal rescue centre has received a £500 donation from a local housebuilder following an appeal for funding to cover its veterinary bills.

Davidsons Homes, which is building at its Diamond Heights development in the town, has donated the money to help fund the cost of this month’s treatments.

Northamptonshire Animals Needing Nurturing and Adoption, commonly known as NANNA, was set up in 2004 by Petrina and Michael Alderman, along with their daughter Carla, to rehabilitate wildlife, rehome pets and offer a place of sanctuary for farm animals.

Over the last 16 years, the Alderman family have worked tirelessly to look after tens of thousands of animals at Higglety Pigglety Farm in Irthlingborough, caring for up to 750 animals at any one time.

Due to Government restrictions imposed during the pandemic, fundraising activities have slowed significantly over the past year, prompting Petrina, Michael and Carla to issue an appeal on their Facebook page for donations to help keep the centre going.

Petrina said: “NANNA is home to a wide variety of animals, some looking for a new home, some looking for rehabilitation and some who need a relaxing, safe environment to live in.

“This year has been difficult. Our usual fundraising activities have been halted due to social distancing restrictions, and we have been unable to save as much as we normally would.

“Each month we spend thousands of pounds on veterinary bills, as well as food, shelter and other vital equipment to help us look after all the different animals. We rely on the generosity of companies like Davidsons Homes doing their bit to support us, and we are extremely grateful for any assistance that we receive.”

Simon Tyler, Sales Director for Davidsons Homes South Midlands, said: “After seeing the appeal for donations to help support NANNA Animal Rescue, we immediately reached out to find out how we could offer our support.

“Our donation will go towards veterinary bills. This is one of the largest ongoing costs for NANNA, as the animals always require some form of medical attention.”
