Nottinghamshire homebuilder supports fitness and wellbeing bootcamp

As part of its Community Fund scheme, David Wilson Homes East Midlands has contributed to the work of a grassroots health and well-being fitness bootcamp in Nottinghamshire.

A £250 donation has been made by the leading developer to support AKA, a group of individuals striving to create more health, wealth and oneness in their local communities.

Founded by Anton Brown, Kevin Spriggs and Antwon Bonnick, the group began outdoor workouts whilst gym closures were still in place after the UK’s first lockdown, and later launched their own bootcamps at the Harvey Hadden Sports Village in Bilborough.

Anton, Kevin and Antwon said:

“Helping others is where our hearts lie and we would love to be able to do this full time and extend our reach and impact to make our communities safer, stronger and healthier.

“It’s well-known that by exercising you gain a greater sense of well-being and in these challenging times, this is needed more than ever.

“Our sessions, although fitness focussed, really are designed to create that feeling of togetherness that many people have been missing in recent times. Overall, the response has been truly heart-warming and lets us know we are making a difference, which keeps us motivated.

“Starting a grassroots project can be difficult at the best of times and funding is often hard to come by. Moving into the winter seasons means we have to start paying for venue hire, so this donation from David Wilson Homes will allow us to subsidise the cost of the sessions, keeping them running for longer.”

Fitness bootcamps are just one of many activities run by AKA and the donations received are also put towards surplus projects.

The non-profit organisation started with the three friends volunteering to arrange community football tournaments, clothing drives for the homeless and ‘dads and lads’ events.

AKA’s fitness bootcamps are on hold amidst the latest lockdown, but Anton, Kevin and Antwon are looking ahead to bringing everyone together in the New Year and helping many people across Nottinghamshire to achieve their goals.
